Ronnie James Dio, the Bard of Heavy Metal. Starting his career off singing for elf, he has progressed through many different styles and bands. In 1975, Richie Blackmore broke off from Deep Purple, and started Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, with Dio singing. Rainbow released 8 CDs total, but Dio left the band after the fourth to join the de-Ozzied Black Sabbath. After 3 years and 8 more CDs with Sabbath, Dio starts his own band, DIO, with the drummer, Vinnie Appice. DIO, an 80s metal band, broke the water with Holy Diver, a song you may have actually heard of. Appeared on an episode of South Park, actually. DIO is still playing, and currently on tour.

combination of heavy metal guitar and a vocal style unique to the band.

The definition of heavy metal. They are in tour now, coming to DC July 4th!! What a way to spend Independace Day. Opening for them is System of a Down, but Kid Rock and Korn are also playing. Sweet. The band just kicks ass in general, but I like the songs: One, Whiskey In The Jar, The Unforgiven, and King Nothing in particular. The backup symphony in their new songs has added a great effect to most of their songs. Nothing Else Matters is great, but One was better left alone, I think.
